ATG Originals

 

Why Originals? Because these continuous Journeys on foot through the most beautiful and interesting areas of Europe were the trips ATG started with, but also because in 1979 (when ATG was founded) this was a new and original travel product. The idea, however, was not new. For millennia in most cultures around the world, journeys on foot, whether to fairs, shrines or great centres such as Rome, had been synonymous with 'time out' and 'holiday'. The sense of enjoyment, achievement and revitalisation, experienced by countless millions before us, is still very much a features of ATG Original Journeys today.

 

Routes of Journeys quality are not easy to find - 50 to 175 miles of unspoilt and uniquely beautiful country, with a succession of varied paths and outstandingly interesting places on route, and comfortable characteristic accommodation and good restaurants - is a difficult combination to match.

After 30 years, however, we now have over 1,500 miles of painstakingly researched routes across many of the most inspiring parts of the world.

Each trip is accompanied by two of our trained Tour Consultants, a leader and a manager, and one of our de-luxe Mercedes minibuses, which meets you for lunch each day with one of our celebrated picnics, and transports your luggage to await you in your room at the next hotel on route.

Most people have reservations about committing themselves to walking 50 miles or more, but, by taking advantage of the minibus you can (within reason) walk as much or as little as you like.

The attraction of Journeys is that of making a journey on foot, often along ancient routes to wonderfully preserved medieval towns and village (where we stay) - literally 'walking through history'.
